Young Artist Competition
The competition is open to any Texas student flute player who is a member of the Houston Flute Club and is a student of a Houston Flute Club member. We welcome applications from flutists in Middle School and High School. Here are our guidelines:

Preliminary Round: Sunday, February 9, 2025 Online Audio Submission Deadline
Final Round: March 29, 2025 Live Performance at Flute Fest

Junior Division
J.S Bach: Gigue in Eb Major (no repeats)
(suggested edition: Selected Studies for Flute by H. Voxman—Rubank/Hal Leonard)
Johannes Donjon: Pan, Pastorale (without accompaniment)
(suggested edition: 24 Short Concert Pieces—Southern Music Co.)
Senior Division
Adolphus Hailstork: III. Lento e teneramente AND IV. Allegretto from Flute Set
(suggested edition: Flute Set—Presser Co.)
Anna Amalia of Prussia: II. Allegretto from Sonata in F Major (no accompaniment and no repeats)
(suggested edition: Schott or Kalmus)
*Junior division students must be in grades 9 & under (no lower age limit) for the 2024-25 school year
**Senior division students must be in grades 12 & under (no lower age limit) for the 2024-25 school year
NOTE: All participants must be a current member of the HFC. If you are not a current member please go to the MEMBERSHIP page and join as a student membership.
Participants that have won 1st prize in a division will NOT be qualified to compete in that same division in following years.
Prizes:
Junior Division: 1st Prize - $200, 2nd Prize - $150, 3rd Prize - $100.
Senior Division: 1st Prize - $400, 2nd Prize - $250, 3rd Prize - $150.
